An outdoor candle is great for many reasons, but you still need to know how to maximize its life so you can enjoy it for a long time.
The first piece of advice I’d give you when you first use your candle is to take the time to relax!
We’re often in such a hurry to light our candle but don’t really have the time to enjoy it, that after 15 minutes we turn it off to run errands or tend to the garden.
The first time you use a candle, it’s important to take your time and get the most out of it.
1- Cut your wick to a height of 5mm
2- Light with a BBQ lighter or match (allow time for the wick to fully ignite).
3- Leave lit until the entire surface of the wax has melted (1 to 2 hours). Why? Because it’s this opening created at first lighting that will be recreated at subsequent lighting!
Before each lighting, trim the excess ash from your wick to ensure it lights properly. The wick should always be about 5mm long.
Wondering how to cut your wick? You can certainly buy a wick cutter for this purpose, but simply using a nail clipper does the trick just fine. Also, for lazy people like me, when I want to relight my candle, I remove the excess ash with my fingers… simple and a bit messy, but hands can be washed!
-Keep your candle out of the reach of children and pets.
-Extinguish the candle when you’re not around
-The container may become hot and the wax will remain liquid for some time; wait for it to cool before moving it.
-Once fully extinguished, replace the beautiful lid on your candle and keep it inside the house or under cover.
