Yes, our products are made with natural, plant-based ingredients. They are biodegradable. We take an ecological approach to preserve biodiversity.
We choose ingredients with low environmental impact. Our packaging and containers are also either reusable and/or recyclable. Our boxes are made from 100% recycled cardboard. Our deliveries are carbon neutral. In the short/medium term, we also want to support organizations to raise community awareness of environmental issues.
Our mosquito repellent is made of 30% hydrated and cyclized lemon eucalyptus Citriodiol®. This active ingredient is made by selecting young eucalyptus citriodora leaves that are distilled to produce an essential oil. The essential oil is then processed to extract the active ingredient that acts as an insect repellent.
According to studies, mosquitoes, ticks and other biting insects are attracted to humans by a combination of CO2, odor and heat. Applying the mosquito repellent blocks the odor receptors of the biting insects and prevents them from settling on the skin.
Citriodiol® has been used in insect repellents for over 15 years. Over 35 independent studies have been conducted to validate its effectiveness and safety against biting insects. Studies have shown that it is just as effective as synthetic products such as DEET and much more effective than other plant-based alternatives. Biome Elements Lemon Eucalyptus Mosquito Repellent is approved by Health Canada, supported by very strict safety studies and validations.
Since our mosquito repellent is made from plants, it degrades very quickly in the environment compared to products such as DEET which has been detected in swimming bodies of water.
The skin penetration level of different mosquito repellents on the market has been verified. Fortunately, our mosquito repellent has a very low skin penetration level compared to other synthetic mosquito repellents. So there is less product that ends up in your system and less risk of skin irritation.
Insect repellent products with essential oils tend to evaporate quickly on the skin. Their effectiveness time is therefore very limited. Also, the active ingredients in the essential oil blend are often in very limited quantities compared to Biome Elements Lemon Eucalyptus Mosquito Repellent which guarantees 30% of the active ingredient Citriodiol®. This is no longer just a simple essential oil but an effective concentrate extracted from lemon eucalyptus leaves, namely PMD (p-menthane-3,8-diol).
Our soaps are handmade in Quebec using the cold saponification process. There are no preservatives, stabilizers or synthetic fragrances. They are made with organic olive oil, organic coconut oil, organic shea butter, organic canola oil, clay and organic essential oils.
Yes, our soaps are formulated with gentle, natural ingredients, making them suitable for family use. However, even natural oils can cause a skin reaction in rare cases, so if redness or itching appears, discontinue use.
Our soaps last about 3 weeks for a family of 3. Did you know that if you use it for showering, bathing or as a hand soap, the duration will vary?
Using a soap dish is very important to allow the soap to dry between uses, so you'll also have a soap that lasts longer.
Our soaps can easily be kept for 1 year. Over time, the color may change and the scent may fade, but the cleansing power and the oils and butters will still have their full effect.
No, even if our soap are biodegradable, some essential oils can harm marine life. It is a false impression that any biodegradable soap should or could be used in a waterbody. If you are in a nature, use a container to bring water at good distance from the lake to wash
Our candles are made and cast by hand in Quebec with organic essential oils and soy wax. Our crackling wood wicks are FSC-certified and provide a more environmentally friendly burn.
Yes, you can recycle the container, or even better, use it to sow herbs in the spring, or for ingredients or jewelry.
Since our candles are used outdoors, the wind and temperature outside will influence the way your candle burns. We've chosen the wick to give your candle the best possible performance, whatever the outdoor conditions.
Our candles are made with essential oils from plants that repel biting insects such as mosquitoes and black flies. The scent will help repel them. We also recommend the use of a Health Canada-approved insect repellent for 100% protection against insect bites.
Absolutely. Our candles are specially formulated for outdoor use, with a wooden wick for clean burning.
We don't recommend using our outdoor candles for indoor use, as the quantity of essential oil is high and the scent will be too strong. We do, however, have a specially formulated version for indoor use available in winter and at some of our retailers. Contact us if you're interested!
Since candles are used outdoors, several factors will influence the lifespan of your candle and the opening of the wax surface. Wind direction, outdoor temperature and exposure to the sun versus use in the shade will all have an impact on the life of your candle.
The crackling wick should be 5 mm from the surface of the wax. Be sure to remove excess burnt wood before each use.
